Basic Programming – Human Computer

Kids give human commands like a computer to form patterns.

• What is Needed:

• 12 Drinking Cups

• Up, Down, Right, Left Command Signs

• Pictures of Cup Patterns

Instructions:

1. Have the kids pick the pattern they would like to create.

2. Make the pattern with one set of cups. (Figure #1)

3. Place the rest of the cups on top of each other, upside down.

4. “Human” places a hand on the top cup in the pile.

5. Follow the directions from the kids. (Remember that there needs to be a “space” between two cups, or the cups will be half on top of each other – see Figure #2)

6. Using only the four (4) commands listed, have the kids make the correct pattern.
