The FRC® season game released in 2008 by FIRST® was called OVERDRIVE. The object of this game was to score the most points for one's alliance by completing laps around the track and/or score points by knocking off and hurdling trackballs. The two alliances are made up of three teams each, for a total of six robots on the field. The robots maneuver 5 feet diameter trackballs counter-clockwise around the field. Each alliance has two trackballs on the field that started out seated on the overpass at the beginning of the match. Robots could score by knocking off the trackballs, running laps, and hurdling the trackballs over the overpass. Each team was permitted a hybrid period at the beginning of each match, followed by the tele-operated mode. Each match lasted a total of 2 minutes and 15 seconds.
RACK N' ROLL®
The FRC season game released in 2007 by FIRST was called Rack N' ROLL. For each match there were 2 alliances with 3 teams on each alliance. The game is played on a 54' x 26' 8" field with a rack in the center full of 24 "spider legs." Teams used three different tube types called Keepers, Ringers, and Spoilers to score. During the 15 second autonomous mode, robots must be programmed to place a Keeper one one of the spider legs on the rack. The robots must use a color tracking system to locate one out of the four lights at the precipice of the center rack. After the 15 second autonomous mode ends, the 2 minute tele-operated mode begins. Each match therefore lasts a total of 2 minutes and 15 seconds long.
AIM HIGH®
This FRC game released by FIRST in 2006 was titled AIM HIGH. Every match consists of 2 alliances made up of 3 teams each for a total of 6 robots. Each alliance has 3 goals, 2 of which are corner goals, and 1 in the center. The robots also must start in the alliance starting boxes. Players must throw balls to the robots over the wall to replenish the depleted loads. Players can score balls into corner goals, or throw balls to intercept other ball launches. Each alliance has 40 balls at the beginning of the match but the robots may hold up to 10 balls themselves to start. Every match lasts a total of 2 minutes and 10 seconds.
TRIPLE PLAY®
The FRC season game released in 2005 by FIRST was named TRIPLE PLAY. This game was composed of 2 alliances with 3 teams per alliance all on a 27' x 54' playing field. The goal of this game was to score points by placing tetras (tetrahedral game pieces) on top of goals around the field. During the 15 second autonomous, robots can use color sensors to "recognize" the tetras and place them on the goals for bonus points. When tele-operated period begins, the human players have control of the robots. Humans may choose to drive the robots robots to the manual loading stations where human players can manually place tetras on the robots.
RAISING THE BAR®
The FRC season game released by FIRST in 2004 was titled RAISING THE BAR. Each match consists of two alliances made up of two teams per alliance. The object of the game is to score playground balls into the vertical goals on a two level platform. During the 15 second autonomous mode, robots can home in on the beacon at the side of the field to locate the bonus balls. These balls can be knocked off their platforms to release the 18 playground balls for bonus points. The score is totaled up at the end of each match.
STACK ATTACK®
The FRC game, STACK ATTACK, was released by FIRST in 2003. The object of this game was to stack up plastic storage on each of the alliance's end of the field. The game consists of a ten second human player period where the players can set up the containers anywhere on their scoring zones. A fifteen second autonomous mode is provided where the robot drives around using sensors and programming. The match is then continued with the tele-operated period where the robot must continue to stack the containers in the appropriate scoring zones. Additional points are given to those robots who end up on their platform at the end of the match.
