The FRC® season game released by FIRST® in 2008 was OVERDRIVE. The object of this game was to score the most points for one's alliance by completing laps around the track and/or score points by knocking off and hurdling trackballs. The two alliances are made up of three teams each, for a total of six robots on the field.
The robots maneuver 5 feet diameter trackballs counter-clockwise around the field. Each alliance has two trackballs on the field that started out seated on the overpass at the beginning of the match. Robots could score by knocking off the trackballs, running laps, and hurdling the trackballs over the overpass. Each team was permitted a hybrid period at the beginning of each match, followed by the tele-operated mode. Each match lasted a total of 2 minutes and 15 seconds.
