Team Captain Matthew - Building His Dreams with FIRST® Robotics

Picture of Matthew

Matthew's parents knew he was born a builder when he started building with blocks before he could even walk. Years went by and Matthew grew a voracious appetite for LEGO® bricks, naval architecture, and science and technology.

In 2005, Matthew was 12 when his mother started an FLL FIRST® Robotics team for students at Short Pump Middle School. Matthew and the students wanted to learn more about FIRST® Robotics and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). The Short Pump Puma Prowlers went on to the State Competition, which was incredible for a first year team. Matthew's team continued to be successful, even after Matthew graduated from middle school. Mathew still mentors Mrs. P's robotics team every year.

Matthew went on to high school robotics, starting in the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) competition and quickly moving on to FIRST® Robotics Competition (FRC).

Matthew works hard all year round with FIRST® Robotics, especially during build season with late nights at Flexicell. At the end of last year, Matthew was appointed a team captain and fills his role with complete responsibility. After high school he plans to major in Naval Architecture and come back to help us during FTC and FRC season.
