Team 1086 is very active in the community hosting multiple demonstrations to expose the public to science, technology and engineering. We have held robotics demonstrations at the Girl Scout 95th Anniversary Convention, Boy Scout groups, Wyndham Child Development Center, Rivers Edge Elementary School, the 2009 Career and Technical Expo, the Virginia Technology Educators Association, the Innsbrook Rotary Club, the Virginia Science Museum Scooper Bowl, the Virginia State Fair and our annual Robotics demonstration at the local library.

We have been publically recognized for our hard work and community outreach programs. The Henrico County School Board recognized Team 1086 for their success in FIRST Robotics at one of their meetings last year. Letters of support were received from Congressmen Eric Cantor and Jim Moran, Governor Tim Kaine, Bob McDonell and Governor Schwartzenegger. This year the team attended the Virginia Legislative Day for Technology where team members met with legislators about their support for technology and robotics in the state of Virginia. The team has been featured in videos on YouTube, on a FIRSTwiki page, the Richmond Times Dispatch, the Deep Run Sentinel, PTA Newsletters, Henrico County Ledger, Henrico Citizen, FIRST Robots: Rack 'N' Roll: Behind the Design, Henrico County School Board Annual Report, Henrico County Annual Report, Henrico County Public School Cable TV, Flexicell Corporation Documentary and included in a PBS FIRST Robotics documentary.

Our team mentors nine FLL teams in our community. They include two teams at Colonial Trails Elementary School, four teams at Pocahontas Middle School, and three teams at Short Pump Middle School. This year, we also mentor three rookie FTC teams. We continue our partnerships with local FRC teams by helping them in any way we can. This year our new nonprofit organization Team Blue Cheese offered grants to the new Glen Allen High School and the new Holman Middle School to start FIRST Robotics teams when they open next year.
